So before you begin your exercise, you’re probably taking a pre-workout supplement. But what do you do afterward? It’s time for a recovery supplement! With so many options on the market and so many different opinions, it can be hard to navigate all the choices and find the right one for you. I’ll take the guesswork out of the equation and provide you with my best recovery supplements below.
What’s the Best Supplement for Recovery?
You’re looking for many things in a good post-workout recovery product. You’ve just been tearing up your muscles in the gym and they’re in dire need of nourishment. A good recovery supplement should help with muscle repair, refill your energy stores, and minimize muscle breakdown so you can get optimal muscle growth. Here’s what I recommend in accomplishing just that.
BCAA Energy from EVLUTION NUTRITION
You’ll see BCAA powders listed a couple times on this page as they are great for this need. In BCAA Energy you’ll be getting green coffee and green tea which are huge in energy, recovery, and performance needs.
This product contains L-Leucine which helps supply energy to your muscles, but more importantly, for the purpose of this article, it supports muscle protein synthesis. It also has L-Isoleucine, which similarly helps muscle tissue development and recovery and helps to build lean muscle mass.
On top of that, it also has Beta Alanine which supports the buffering of lactic acid. You know when you’re sore the next day after a workout? That’s because of lactic acid buildup. This ingredient helps reduce that.
Essential AmiN.O. Energy
This is an amino acid powder (sensing a theme here?) that comes from naturally-sourced caffeine and is designed to support muscle endurance and recovery. That’s the name of the game for this article, so of course, it’s a top choice for me.
This is consistently a top-selling product and for good reason. Each serving comes with 100g of caffeine as well as 5 grams of micronized free form amino acids. Take 1-2 scoops of this immediately after your workout to help boost muscle recovery.
Like BCAA Energy, this also contains Beta-Alanine for that lactic acid build-up. After I started taking this, there was a dramatic reduction in soreness the next day after my workouts. It used to be so hard to get out of bed after leg day, and this has made those mornings much easier to get through.
This is another one by EVLUTION NUTRITION and follows along the motif of a BCAA product. These types of supplements are just perfect for workout recovery. I can’t get enough of them and it’s hard to choose a favorite among this list.
What I like about this one versus the other choices is that it contains zero sugar and zero calories, so I’m not messing up my diet when I add this to my post-workout shake. They have an unflavored option that you don’t even notice it’s in there, all while getting your BCAA’s!
This product is formulated to help supply energy to the muscles and aids in protein synthesis. It contains the same ingredients of L-Leucine and L-Isoleucine as described above in BCAA Energy, as well as the addition of L-Valine to give your muscles an energy boost.
After taking this supplement, I noticed an improved recovery time, a huge boost to my endurance, and a nice kick of energy. Typically after workouts, I’m ready to crash, and this helps me avoid that. Since I do my workouts before going to work in the morning, that kick is just what I need!
There are a ton of options on the market, and I’ve tried quite a few of them, but to me it comes down to these three as the best for post-workout recovery supplements. Give them a try and let us know how you feel after your next exercise routine!
