Gaining Weight From Cutting Calories?

March 8, 2016 by Shaun Hudson

Most people who want to lose weight want to quickly see drastic changes in their weight, resulting in them changing their diet dramatically. The biggest mistake one makes is thinking that if they eat absolutely nothing and exercise profusely then they’ll lose weight drastically, but what actually these people might be doing is sabotaging their own diet and health.

Can Calorie Depletion Cause Weight Gain?

When going on a weight loss plan one needs to be very sure of what they take in, as well as the quantity they take in. The most effective way of losing weight is taking in fewer calories in order to keep your metabolism working. When your metabolism is fast and you are taking in fewer calories, your body will be forced to release the stored fat in order to provide you with the energy required. This results in weight loss. If you go on the myth that eating nothing will bring drastic changes in your weight, then you will do nothing but sabotage your own weight and health. When you do not provide your body with sufficient calories then your body goes into a starvation mode.

Starvation Mode

can you gain weight when cutting calories?A starvation mode is when your body decides that it is not going to be provided with food because of the limited quantity that you have been providing it. This way the body decides on storing fat because it thinks that it might need it in the future. This results in bring the complete opposite change in your weight from what you expect. Since your body is at a standstill and you are storing fat instead of burning it, you end up not getting the result that you desire.

Losing Hope

When a person trying to lose weight doesn’t see the changes they expect, they tend to lose hope. Since you won’t be providing your body with enough calorie intake, it will go into the starvation mode and result in weight gain. This standstill in your weight may cause frustration. When a person is not motivated to lose weight and they are not seeing the changes they expect they are more likely to go on a spree of overeating.

Final Thoughts on Cutting Calories

To avoid all the frustration and anxiety that comes with being disappointed in your weight loss plan, it is better to take it slow. Instead of not eating anything, it is better to just lessen the amount of food one takes in. This will help you show results and not affect your health.
