Depression makes us crave sugar and other high-calorie foods. This is why sugar and other high-calorie foods are known as comfort food because when we are feeling down they make us feel better temporarily. We then get addicted to them in a way, and feel that we need them in order to feel better. That is where obesity comes in.

If you are looking for weight loss advice, try to stay in a somewhat healthy shape. Being depressed is not going to help matters if you are serious about losing body fat. Although finding comfort in food is not a mental illness, we still need to seriously consider its repercussions. If we just taught people to deal with their problems instead of running away from them and finding temporary satisfaction in food, then they would not end up binging every time they would be upset. This could dramatically cut down the rate of obesity among our population and certainly lead to significant weight loss.
