So you’ve built some nice arms and pecs, but you just can’t get rid of that flab that’s covering your chest, huh? Well, I’m here to tell you that it isn’t really possible to “spot reduce” fatty areas, but there are some things you can do that will get you on your way to a more toned and refined pec area.
To start things off, however, I will say this: make sure you’ve built up your chest muscles in the first place! It won’t be that impressive looking if you haven’t been hitting the bench press, whether there’s fat there or not.
Can You Get Rid of Chest Fat?
As I said above, the brutal truth is no – you cannot specifically just get rid of the flab that’s covering up your well-built pectoral muscles. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t get rid of this fat at all.
What you need to do is lose fat in general. You want to get your body fat percentage into the single digits if you really want the muscle definition to show – not just on your chest, but everywhere else on your body as well. One great way to really increase your fat burning is to incorporate high-intensity interval training into your workouts. Burning calories to get rid of that fat is just half of the battle. You also need to watch your caloric intake, as well as what comprises those calories. They say that abs are made in the kitchen, but really that statement can be made for muscle definition everywhere on your body. You need to be eating right, complete with fruits (see here for suggestions) and vegetables (recommendations here), and lots of protein-packed lean foods.
Sorry to burst your bubble if you were coming here for a solution on how to get rid of chest fat, but the brutal truth is that there is no way to just target that area. However, if you reduce your body fat in general (down to around 8%-9% at the maximum) through hard work in the gym and smart choices in the kitchen, you’ll get the physique you’re aiming for.
