When you are looking heavy, it is not always because you are carrying extra fat. Sometimes it can be the result of carrying excess water weight. While it isn’t a problem as common as being overweight, you can definitely be holding a few extra pounds around your body because of water weight from time to time. This can even happen to otherwise healthy individuals.
If you want to eliminate that excess fluid and get a more cut look, luckily there are a few things you can do to remedy this issue.
Ways to Get Rid of Water Weight
Follow these simple tips and you’ll be on your way!
Drink Water
This sounds really contradictory, I know. The reason why you get bloated with water is because of sodium. When you consume too much sodium and get too little of water, your body pulls all of your hydration to your core organs to rebalance your water and sodium levels. This is why water weight is centralized around the belly area.
To help restore this balance, you can drink more water to make sure you are properly hydrated.

Sweat It Out
This one comes down to sodium levels as well. Ever notice when sweat runs down your face onto your lips and you get a little taste of it, it tastes salty? That’s the sodium content in your sweat. In the above tip, I suggested adding water to your body to restore balance. This is the inverse of that. In this case, you can work up a sweat to expunge that excess sodium in your body. Get outside in the sun and exert yourself, or visit the sauna if you have one available at your gym.
One great way to get sweaty is high-intensity interval training, which we describe here: https://www.dietpillreviews.com/best-hiit-exercises/
Lower Your Salt Intake
Are you seeing a common theme here? You could have probably guessed that this one is coming. One way to keep your sodium and water balance is to limit the amount of sodium in your diet. It can be hard to do, but be cognizant when reading food labels and search for low-sodium options. Getting around 1,500 milligrams per day is good for your health, according to the American Heart Association. Going in excess of that is where you run the risk of water retention, not to mention raising the risk of osteoporosis and even cancer.
Eat Foods Rich in Water
Besides drinking more water, you can also add foods to your diet that are high in water content. The main things you should be eating more of are fruits and vegetables. If you didn’t already have these heavily in your diet, here’s even more reason to start doing so!

Get Active
This is similar to “Sweat It Out” mentioned above, but for different reasons. You should avoid prolonged inactivity, such as laying on the couch or recliner or sitting all day at a desk at work. When you are immobile for a long time, you reduce your blood flow. This reduces circulation throughout your body, making it less able to carry nutrients where needed as well as flush out excess fluid and sodium.
If you’re stuck at a desk for work, make sure you get up and walk around every once in a while to keep your blood flowing.
Give these simple tips above a try and you’ll see that water weight fade away, and look and feel better!
