Men’s and Women’s Guide to Multivitamins

October 15, 2018 by Shaun Hudson

Multivitamins are a convenient way to supplement on minerals and vitamins required on a daily basis by the human body. Most multivitamin manufacturers claim that by eating their pill, you’ll receive all the minerals and vitamins you could think of.

But if you look closely, this claim is often doubtful. Multivitamins are not necessarily good for you body, especially if you have no idea what you are consuming in the first place.

Since women and men have different vitamin and mineral needs due hormonal differences, it’s never really a good idea to just pop a pill and expect good things to come out of it.

In this post, we are going to help you understand the difference between good, bad and the ugly multivitamins, so next time you are buying a bottle of these pills, you should have a good idea what you need to get.

Why Vitamins and Minerals are Important

The body requires at least 13 types of vitamins and at least 16 vital minerals to function properly. Vitamins and minerals are very important for crucial organ functions of the body as well as are needed to support the immune system, energy production, regulation of hormones and much more.

A deficiency of any of these vital 13 vitamins and 16 minerals can promote various diseases in the body which can even result in fatality. Some examples include rickets, due to lack of vitamin D, and beriberi, due to lack of vitamin B3.

The reason why multivitamins are so popular in America is due to the fact that a single pill can help you meet daily requirements of all these minerals and vitamins without the need to get them from eating food.

Since it is nearly impossible for our body to absorb all the nutrients, minerals and vitamins from the food we eat, a multivitamin supplement becomes a necessity if you want to keep your body functioning properly.

The important thing to note however is, that you cannot just walk to a pharmacy and pick any multivitamin and expect good results in return. The fact of the matter is that many multi-vitamin manufacturers will add in nutrients in an ineffective form. Sometimes the balance of vitamins and minerals are also out of place and can often contain a little too much of bulky nutrients such as vitamin D, vitamin K2 and more.

That is why it is crucial to pick a multivitamin that provides you with the minerals and vitamins that matter to your body. Since women and men require different minerals and vitamin content to function properly, always pick a multivitamin that is intended for your gender and has the right balance of important nutrients.
